Reception[edit]
- Mar 30, 2021 If the TenFourFox name doesn’t mean much to you, it’s a project that has kept the Mozilla browser alive for PowerPC Macs. It’s been a labor of love, and now, some 15 years after the Intel transition, it’s coming to an end. This is a bummer, but it’s amazing that the work has gone on so.
- TenFourFox shares its main feature set with Firefox along with optimizations for the PowerPC platform. Similar to other optimized build projects such as Pale Moon and Swiftfox, TenFourFox includes specific compiler optimizations to improve its overall performance and issues specific builds tuned for specific processor families.
- TenFourFox: Mozilla for Power Macintosh. A fork of Firefox to maintain support for the Power Mac, supporting Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5, with special features and optimizations for PowerPC processors and AltiVec. This project is not affiliated with nor supported by Mozilla in any way, and is not an official build. PowerPC forever!
- Who does need this proxy?: Support for Gopher does not exist in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and later, Microsoft Edge (all versions), Google Chrome (all versions), Apple Safari (all versions), Mozilla versions 2.0 and later and all derivatives (including Firefox 57+ (install OverbiteWX), Firefox 4 through 56, TenFourFox 4+ and SeaMonkey 2.1+ (install OverbiteFF)), Opera (all versions.
QtWeb has been described as a lightweight web browser which offers some amount of customisable features, speed and simplicity to navigate.[6][7][8][9] However it has been criticised for the lack of extensions support, no way to run Java and its problems to work with several websites.[6][9]

Looks like we will soon have a beta release of Firefox 8.0 for Apple PPC architectures. Watch this space.

UPDATE :
Ok, we now have a link to the tenfourfox version 8.0 of Firefox. See it here.
Version 8 offers us a nice check facility of all add-ons in use. This way we can enable/disable add-ons to improve performance, that no longer work, or that we have forgotten we had installed. All this comes at the loss of parity on visual equality. Featureset equality remains, so everything runs the same on tenfourfox as on mozilla’s firefox, it’ just that things like borders and other bits of chrome on the browser window will not always appear to be the same. Further code has been developed to make tenfourfox use the ImageIO’s AltiVec-accelerated JPEG decoder, which improves overall rendering of JPEG images on G4 and G5 by almost 125%. Nice.
Pick up a copy using the links below. You will need to know which processor chipset your system has.
